One of the most difficult techniques to master in swimming is the Earle Vertical Forearm position.  Here’s a video that will show you how to do it.

Early vertical forearm generates power in the stroke by affording the swimmer the ability to “grab” more water by utilizing not only their hand but also their forearm.

The key to this technique is to get your forearm in a 45 degree position after hand entry but before you begin bringing your elbow back.
